  • Who can take part in Design Ventura?

    All schools can register to take part in Design Ventura with students in Years 9, 10 and 11.

    UK state schools will be shortlisted to pitch to the judging panel for the chance of working with professional designers to manufacture and sell their product in the Design Museum Shop.

    The top ten schools will be invited to the Celebration Event at the museum and see their ideas in a public display. Independent schools submit their entry and the top three ideas will be selected by the shortlisting panel. The team with best idea will win a visit to the Design Museum in Kensington and a session with a professional designer.

  • How many students can I participate with?

    Students must work in teams of 4-6, therefore the minimum is 4 students. There is no maximum number of students allowed per school.

  • I am a student, can I take part as an individual?

    To participate a teacher has to register your school and you need to work in a team of 4-6. If your school is not registered why not persuade a teacher to sign up and run a small after school or extra-curricular activity?

  • Do I need to be able to come to the Design Museum to take part?

    To run the project you do not need to come to the Design Museum. There are many resources to support the project and give an idea of the ethos and audience of the museum. If you make it through to the top ten you will be invited to the Pitching and Celebration Events which take place at the museum. We encourage all top ten teams to attend these events. The winning team will also be invited to come to the museum to launch their product in the Design Museum Shop.

    Some financial help can be offered for teams travelling long distances. If this is still impossible we will explore ways of including schools that cannot attend.

  • Are there any costs involved in taking part in Design Ventura?

    Participating in the project is free this includes all supporting activities, such as workshops and Teacher CPD events. The only costs that you may incur are for travel if you make it through to the top ten shortlist.

  • Can we visit the Design Museum as part of the project?

    Yes, all partipating schools can book in for a free group visit. State schools that are participating can also book free workshops supported by industry experts. Go to booking page.

  • What do we win?

    The winning Design Ventura team will win a beautiful trophy and the chance to work with a professional designers and the Design Museum retail team to develop their product. They will launch their finished product in the Design Museum shop and at a pop-up shop at Deutsche Bank’s London head office.

    The second place team will be invited to an ‘experience day’ tailored to relate to their idea or area of interest. These have in previous years included visits to design studios, other museums and sessions with professional designers. The top ten teams (including first and second place) will see their idea on display in a public exhibition at the Design Museum, receive goody bags and attend the Celebration Event, to which they can invite family and friends.

    All participating students receive certificates. Independent and international schools are welcome to participate in the project but we are unable to offer free workshops and they will compete for a separate prize.

  • What should I submit?

    You can find out more information about submission on the Finishing up page. The deadline for submission isĀ Wednesday 15 November at 5pm.

  • How many designs can be submitted for each school?

    Only one design per school can be submitted as an entry for the competition.

  • How many schools go to the final?

    After the submission deadline on Wednesday 15 November 2017 at 5pm, the top ten teams will be announced on the Design Ventura website. They are then invited to a pitching event at the Design Museum and the winning team, announced at the Celebration Event, goes on to work with a professional design team to develop their idea and see it on sale in the Design Museum Shop.
