Design Ventura

Following the submission date of 14 November at 5pm, all entries will be carefully reviewed by our shortlisting panel of judges. They will have the difficult task of selecting the top ten submitted ideas for Design Ventura 2018. You can read more about them below (in alphabetical order):

Angus Montgomery is a creative writer at the Government Digital Service (GDS). He works with teams across GDS to help them define and articulate their work. Before joining GDS he was editor of Design Week, where he led the title as it moved into being a digital publication. He has also worked for the Press Association and the Architects’ Journal. He studied history and journalism and his writing has appeared in a number of newspapers, magazines and websites.

Ella Doran is a designer, photographer and mark-maker, whose innovative and constantly-curious eye has led to the creation of a wide range of highly-accomplished projects and objects across product and textile design, fashion, furniture and large-scale interior graphics. Ella has been commissioned by or has collaborated with a prestigious roll call of British and international brands, retailers, institutions and manufacturers, including John Lewis, Habitat, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Tate Modern, The Royal London Hospital and Portmeirion. Striving to produce sustainably in collaboration with her manufacturers, Ella also promotes the design industry’s shift toward a circular economy through various public engagement and student teaching projects focused around giving furniture a new life.

Harry Mitchell is an Associate Director at Sebastian Conran Associates, a London based industrial design consultancy that have diverse portfolio or work ranging from homewares through to consumer robotics. After graduating from Northumbria University with a BA (Hons) in Three Dimension Design – Product and Furniture, Harry gained a particular interest in mechanical engineering, which he enjoys applying to live projects as well as at home in his workshop.

Peta Miller is passionate about design, and believes in the power of the big idea as the starting point for every brand’s identity. Peta has over three decades of creative expertise, business acumen and production know-how, working directly with clients from most sectors, from global giants to innovative start-ups. Peta trained at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design (Foundation in Graphic Design), and Middlesex Polytechnic (BA Hons in Graphic Design). Peta is a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers and has been a ‘Design Ventura’ industry expert volunteer since 2013.

Rhys Morgan is a product manager and now heads Digital Service, Onboarding and Identity Products in Deutsche Bank’s Global Transaction Bank; implementing solutions to meet clients’ needs, and improve client service and the end to end client journey. Rhys has worked in small and large organizations as a software developer, finance director, consultant, programme manager, and product manager. Rhys has worked with the Design Ventura Project for the last 4 years and still proudly displays his daughter’s Design Ventura prize, from a summer family day, on the mantelshelf at home.

 

Valerie Charlton’s interest in human behaviour led her to obtain a BSc in Psychology before going on to complete a Masters in Industrial Design at the Pratt Institute in New York City.  She has worked in the product design field for over fifteen years, most recently as Design Director of Sebastian Conran Associates, a multidisciplinary London-based consultancy.
